Circular economy in action

Circular economy lessons at schools in Greece

Since 2022 we have been running “Circular economy in action” along with NGO SciCo. The educational programme includes:

• Extracurricular labs and activities for students aged 10-15
• Online training for teachers on the principles and aims of sustainability

Students and teachers across Greece, even in remote areas and islands, can participate in the programme.

Circular economy and the environment

Through the educational programmes, students and teachers learn all about the various environmental challenges and circular economy, a new production and consumption model based on responsibility and sustainability.

Children have the chance to:

• Participate in experiential activities so they may comprehend the importance of preserving and reusing natural resources.
• Discover innovative solutions that reduce the environmental burden through circular approaches and techniques.

The programme aims to reinforce the change in stance and behaviour against the environment, as circular economy is now considered a priority across Europe.

Enhancing financial literacy

The action promotes financial literacy among children, as it brings them into contact with basic economic terms and concepts. The aim is to nurture responsible consumers. 
Through the programme, children sharpen skills such as teamwork, problem solving, project management and communication, as they:

• Design circular economy business models.
• Draft advertising and communication plans for their companies.

They also cultivate their critical thinking, as they explore the consequences of today’s production and consumption models, and review alternatives.

This programme forms part of our IQonomy initiative for financial literacy.
