Promoting financial literacy in schools
Financial skills for children
In partnership with ActionAid we are offering the ABCs of Financials educational programme to teachers in primary and secondary education, as well as students aged 10-15.
The action forms part of the IQonomy initiative, which aims to enhance financial literacy in Greece.
The programme has been approved by the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. The manuals have received approval from the Institute of Educational Policy and the training materials are posted on the Skills Platform
Seminars for teachers
The teachers participating in the programme attend a free 2-hour training seminar, in-house or online, and receive a certificate of attendance.
They then receive the educational materials to hold interactive activities in class. During the activities stage, teachers receive support from experienced mentors.
The educational materials includes:
- Manual for teachers.
- Workbook for students; a different one per school grade.
Investing in tomorrow’s society
The educational programme gradually introduces students to key economic principles. The children have the chance to reflect on and discuss topics such as: responsible consumption, human rights, resource development and management, pitching business ideas.
Our aim is to create a new generation of financially aware and responsible citizens who:
- Understand the complex global financial environment.
- Make informed social and financial decisions.
- Become vehicles of change for a fairer and more sustainable society.
Turning our values into action
With the ABCs of Financials, we actively demonstrate our contribution to the financial literacy of the young generation, starting from primary school.
Through online seminars for teachers and experiential school activities for students, the action:
- Helps participants become familiar with key economic terms.
- Boosts their day-to-day money management skills.
Planning for the future
By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, we aim to have trained 950 teachers and have had 9,150 students participate in the programme.
The new ABCs of Financials series started in February 2024. Teachers with students in primary (grades 5 and 6) or junior high school who are interesting in running the programme in class can fill in the application form to attend the training seminar on one of the available dates.
